Regulation EN343 Permeability

Impermeability protection against rain.

This standard specifies the requirements and test methods applied to the materials and seams of the protective clothing against the effects of foul weather (for example, rain or snow), fog and humidity.

The requirements to be accomplished are:

Property Standard Minimum Requirements
Resistance to water penetration EN 20811 Wp ≥ 8000 Pa
Resistance to water vapour EN 31092 20 < Ret < 40
Tensile strength ISO 1421 450 N (warp and weft)
Tear strength ISO 4674 25 N (warp and weft)
Dimensional shrinkage EN 340 ± 3%
Resistance to seams EN-ISO 13935-2 225 N

The labelling of these garments should show two values, the resistance to water penetration and the resistance to water vapour. These two values are classified in different classes:

Resistance to water penetration Wp Class

Materials after each pre treatment Not necessary Wp ≥ 8000 Pa Wp ≥ 13000 Pa
